The City Council is joining with the non-profit organization Seedco to address growing unemployment among veterans.
Under a new program, veterans will work with a career coach and learn resume writing.
The program will also encourage employers to hire vets.
“The least we can do to thank people who have gone of their own accord, volunteered to protect and serve us, the least we can do is make sure they have every possible opportunity to have a great life when they come back to this great city,” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
The unemployment rate for veterans in the state is nearly 15 percent.
The city has more than 17,000 unemployed veterans, an increase from last year.
