Problem: Coral Realty is one of the leading developers of dormitories in the City of New York. For a project in lower Manhattan, negotiations with the local community board became quite contentious as a result of misunderstood information about the project. This led to community pressure being applied to New York City agencies causing delays in project approval.

Strategy: Our strategy was to develop a coordinated communications plan and build a forum for community input and information distribution. This included the creation of an informational packet for community leaders and government officials, one-on-one briefings with key stakeholders and establishing a 24-hour complaint number.

Result: After implementing the community consultation process and incorporating community concerns into the planning for the project, the property was delivered for occupancy with the conditions laid out in the business terms with the lessee and a commitment for on-going liaison with the adjacent neighborhood. The Client has maintained this framework in all of its projects throughout the City, expediting its government approval process.
