Business Development

Capalino+Company provides a variety of services to help commercial businesses and not-for-profit organizations plan and manage the role of government in their operations. These services include:

Most commercial enterprises or not-for-profit organizations find it increasingly important to understand the regulatory and policy environments of New York City and State governments. Across a broad spectrum of issues, government actions (whether legislative or administrative) often directly impact a company’s competitive posture and ability to adapt to changing conditions. Capalino+Company’s capabilities in business advisory services grew from our work in the early 1990’s with companies that benefited from the State and municipal sector’s increasing demand for materials, products and services, particularly in the technology arena. Since then, we have expanded our scope of services to support a broader range of client-based marketing and sales disciplines that specialize in the public sector.

Utilizing a broad range of relationships with government decision-makers, a command of government processes and an expertise in identifying and communicating an organization’s value position, we formulate and implement successful business development strategies that enable clients to achieve superior sales results. In addition, Capalino+Company advises clients on business development in the private sector.

Specific services we provide in this practice area include:

Government Procurement: Goods & ServicesEach year, New York City and State governments procure billions of dollars worth of goods and services from the private sector.  At Capalino+Company we are experts in:

  • Helping clients prepare formal responses to government procurement requests.
  • Helping clients devise and implement strategies to generate interest within the public sector for new products, services, and technologies.

Joint Ventures & Strategic AlliancesCapalino+Company is fortunate to have strong working relationships with numerous businesses and non-profit organizations throughout the City of New York. We work closely with our clients to identify value-added partnerships, make introductions to the leadership of organizations and broker new relationships on behalf of our clients.

RFP Responses Through its many agencies, The City of New York issues hundreds of Request for Proposals ("RFPs") annually. These RFPs cover a wide variety of topics, such as leases of industrial or recreational facilities, procurement contracts, funding for services (including culture and education), licensing, and technical services (e.g. energy-efficiency audits). Over the past decade, the City has come to rely more and more on the issuance of RFPs as a method for generating revenue, securing cost-effective delivery of goods and services, and equipping the City to achieve new policy goals (e.g. reducing energy consumption by purchasing new energy-efficient technology). The City’s competitive and transparent bidding process has raised the quality standard for RPF respondents, creating a challenging environment for companies seeking to do business with the City.

Our firm has many years of experience both writing RFPs (as members of government) and responding to them (as members of the private sector). By alerting clients to the issuance of new RFPs (promptly and often in advance of their official release) and carefully guiding them through the RFP process, we have a tremendous record of helping clients to win RFP designation. Since Capalino+Company handles the actual writing and production of Responses, the client can pursue RFP opportunities while remaining focused on its core businesses.
