We got word today that U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and U.S. Representatives Nydia Velázquez and Ed Towns have written a letter to the U.S. Army, requesting the emergency stabilization of Admirals Row, a six-acre section of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and the complete property transfer of the site to the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation.
In the letter the politicians point out the deterioration of Building B and the Timber Shed, which they say will require immediate stabilization to save. Although the U.S. Army has already marked the buildings for renewal, agency constraints have put the repairs on hold, the letter said. The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, which has executed the preservation of other buildings on the site, has express willingness to tackle the repairs, but cannot begin work on the structures until the property transfer is finalized.
