Jeanne Mullgrav Recognized for Extraordinary Work as Former Commissioner of NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD)


March 27, 2015 – Capalino’s Executive Vice President Jeanne Mullgrav, who leads the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practice, was honored at the 41st A.D. Democrats Club’s 2015 Journal Dinner Dance for her extraordinary contribution to the community as the Former Commissioner of NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). This honor recognizes her remarkable accomplishments working on behalf of New York City youth and their families, developing and implementing a wide range of high-quality youth and community development programs, and her strength and dedication to New York City’s future.

This exciting event, hosted by District Leader Lew Fidler, Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein and the 41st A.D. Democrats Club, took place on March 26th at Congregation Beth Shalom in Brooklyn.

“Jeanne Mullgrav has contributed greatly to the lives of others and we congratulate her on this well-deserved honor,” said Jim Capalino, CEO of Capalino. “She is a crucial member of our extraordinary team and we are lucky to have her leading our Corporate Social Responsibility group. This award is an example of the great work Capalino’s team members have accomplished and reinforces the strong value we place on giving back to the community.”

Jeanne Mullgrav was one of four honorees in attendance. Other awardees include: Former New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn; Jeffrey Rodus, Past Deputy Chief of Staff to NYC Council Speaker; and Larry Spiewak, Chairman of the Board at COJO of Flatbush.

This event was a who’s who of New York City politics. Attendees include: Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams, Councilman David Greenfield, Councilman Mark Treyger, Former New York City Councilman Domenic Recchia, and Kings County Democratic Chairman Frank Seddio.

In her address to the audience, Jeanne acknowledged the many partnerships that were crucial in driving this great work forward, notably her strong relationship with Lew Fidler and the New York City Council, along with the hardworking members of her former DYCD team, advocates and former DOE and ACS staff.

“My most successful endeavors at DYCD occurred when government, nonprofits, and the private sector all joined together on behalf of New Yorkers,” said Jeanne, addressing the packed crowd.

Jeanne also recognized her colleagues at Capalino, especially Jim Capalino and Travis Terry, for the opportunity to utilize her skills and passion to develop a thriving Corporate Social Responsibility practice at New York City’s leading government relations firm.

The Capalino team was in attendance to share their congratulations and support the recognition of their colleague.

“I am so grateful to work with the smart, ethical and ‘can-do team’ at Capalino, many of whom are here today,” said Jeanne.

Jeanne Mullgrav was appointed Commissioner of the New York City Department of Youth And Community Development (DYCD) in 2002 by Mayor Bloomberg.  During her tenure, Jeanne steered the organization through a tremendous period of growth and transformation.

DYCD is New York City’s lead agency for administering youth and community programs, DYCD invests public funds in experienced community-based organizations that provide after-school programs, train young people for jobs and enhance individuals’ literacy skills, among other goals.
